A different kind of honor killing?

26 Comments by Kristin Chapman December 13 9:20 AM

Friends of a 16-year-old girl who was killed by her Muslim father say disputes over dress most likely precipitated the tragic event. According to her friends, Aqsa Parvez had rebelled in recent months, frequently leaving home wearing her hijab, but taking it off and changing into Western clothes at school, and then changing back before going home.

The good jihad

Fifty years have passed since Brother Andrew, the man known as “God’s smuggler,” drove his first load of Bibles behind the Iron Curtain. Now, reports WORLD’s Priya Abraham, the 79-year-old evangelist has turned his attention to Islam. To Brother Andrew, the atheism of the Soviet Union was “the good old days.”

Islam “is a far more cruel system,” he told WORLD on a visit to Washington. “Communists would take you prisoner. The Muslims kill you.” Read here about Brother Andrew and the “good jihad.”

Trial in Turkey for murdered Christian workers

The trial of five men accused of torturing and murdering three Protestant missionaries earlier this year is underway in Turkey, the BBC reports. The three Christians–Tilmann Geske, Necati Aydin, and Ugur Yuksel–were tortured for three hours by a gang of up to 10 Muslim men in the offices of Zirve Bible Publishing in Malatya. The murderers video recorded the grisly murders on their cell phones. An open letter from the Protestant Church of Smyrna describes in graphic detail the horrific event.

The defendants claim they were provoked by the victims because their activities were “undermining Islam.” Several media outlets, including the Turkish Daily News, note that prosecutors in the case intend to put the victims themselves on trial, with a majority of the case files dedicated to their ministry work. These case files also identify the work of other Christian workers in the area. That same paper reported immediately after the murders that one high-ranking Justice Ministry official declared, “Missionary work is even more dangerous than terrorism and unfortunately is not considered a crime in Turkey.”

Indonesian Christians under Siege

ADNKronos reports that yesterday 30 Islamic “vigiliantes” stormed an Indonesian house church in West Java in order to prevent any further worship. The article notes that Indonesia, the most populous Muslim country in the world, has a law requiring non-Muslims to obtain the consent of 60 members of the community from another faith before they are allowed to build any religious facility. There are no such requirements for Islamic places of worship.

Christian/Muslim conflict is the regular feature of life there (almost always to the detriment of the Christian community), such as ongoing terrorist campaign in Sulawesi and Poso to establish a Taliban-style Islamic state. Two years ago three Christian girls were beheaded and another severely injured on their way to school by Muslim “vigilantes”, who later admitted they collected the heads of the girls as Ramadan trophies. One of the men convicted earlier this year in the attack who was associated with the Jemaah Islamiyah terrorist organization told the court, “It’s not a problem (if I am being sentenced to prison) because this is a part of our struggle.”

Christians, come home…

That’s the message reported by Michael Yon from Muslims in Baghdad, who showed up yesterday for the reopening of St. John’s Church and welcomed the Most Reverend Shlemon Warduni, Auxiliary Bishop of the St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Diocese for Chaldeans and Assyrians in Iraq. According to Yon (“Come Home”), Muslim attendees are hoping for the return of their Christian neighbors, fearful that they may not ever return.

Get them while they’re young

While Christian schools train up children to be productive in society, an Islamic madrassa in Pakistan teaches them that it is desirable to destroy it. The Washington Times reports:

Muhammad is a star student at the Arabia Taeem-ul-Quran madrassa in Lahore because in three years, he managed to memorize the entire Koran, hundreds of pages in an ancient language that is rarely spoken and that neither he nor nearly 100 fellow students can understand. Asked whether he could imagine himself attending a jihadist training camp one day, he replied: “It is my wish to do that, to defend Islam by the grace of God.”

As Steven Emerson revealed in his book American Jihad, certain mosques and Islamist meetings in the U.S. openly teach jihad. Thorny question: Should that be illegal?
