The good jihad
Fifty years have passed since Brother Andrew, the man known as “God’s smuggler,” drove his first load of Bibles behind the Iron Curtain. Now, reports WORLD’s Priya Abraham, the 79-year-old evangelist has turned his attention to Islam. To Brother Andrew, the atheism of the Soviet Union was “the good old days.”
Islam “is a far more cruel system,” he told WORLD on a visit to Washington. “Communists would take you prisoner. The Muslims kill you.” Read here about Brother Andrew and the “good jihad.”

Picking my jaw up off the floor.
A wet dream.
I can’t give much detail, but word from the underground mission network is that there are a significant number of people coming to faith in Christ across north Africa and throughout the Middle East. This is both exciting and dangerous. Christian missionaries from a great country besides the US are preparing to invade the Middle East with the understanding that many of them will be killed. You won’t hear the first word about this in the news.
As long as Brother Andrew is turning “toward” Islam and not turning “to” Islam, as the intro to this thread states.
I understand what it’s saying, but it scared me at first!
BTW, Santiago makes a good point about foreign mission fields being ripe for the harvest. My parents have been doing month-long missionary tours in Guyana, South America 3X a year for the past three years, and they see scores of conversions every time they visit (and discipleship continuing after they leave).
It’s the discipleship that counts, glad to hear the report, Outkast.
My sincere admiration to Brother Andrew and his fellow missionaries to the Muslims. While I do not fear the individual Muslims I rarely meet, I’m chilled at the thought of even traveling to the Middle East. We’ve never even seriously contemplated a trip to Israel because I don’t think it’s safe, not once in the last 30 years!
That’s why God gives us each different gifts!
Donato,
Your crass humor, rudeness, and crude analogy is NOT appreciated.
Make it Man,
You presume that donato does not already know that his crassnes is not appreciated. Let me assure you, he does. It’s the only reason he posts here. Sad, but true. Since he almost never says anything coherent enough to actually require refutation, I suggest ignoring him may be the best policy.
I hope Andrew succeeds in all that he does.
I certainly did ignore Donato’s comment, John M, and I don’t think MIM should either. I’ve forwarded his crass, crude, sexual post to Lynn Vincent, and I encourage others to do the same when he leaves similar posts.
If that will help, then certainly you’re right. But I thought we had a no-ban rule here? Do I misunderstand?
A no-ban rule? Certainly not! Qwerty and Lon Chainey have both been banned….

Good point! I clarified the language in the original post.

I don’t get it.
Thanks Lynn.
It was stupid and juvenile.
It was also typical Donato.
Lynn, Re: #2, Forgetaboutit.
While distributing bibles (NT) with the Gideons at Northern Virginia Community Coll. one time, I attempted to hand one to a young lady. She didn’t stop, she said in passing. “No thanks, they’ll kill me.” That was in USA. I don’t know how serious she was, the encounter lasted about 3 sec.
What do you think of the fact that half of those muslims interviewed came to the faith through a dream or vision? Interesting no? Dreams are not a medium that gets much play in circles I’m in…
Make it Man: Dreams are not a medium that is required in your circles, nor mine. I don’t doubt that it happens. It happened to the Centurion, and Peter. Usually, human intervention is provided somehow. As the Ethopian Eunuch.
“As Brother Andrew would say, the best way to stop a terrorist from shooting you is to go up and hug him.”
Hmmm. Have you hugged a terrorist lately?
While I’m not all that keen on his suggestion, Brother Andrew is my hero! I’ll have to ask for Secret Believers for Christmas. Another good book of his on this subject is Light Force.
Michelle #6 - Do not fear going to Israel. Israel has a lower annual murder rate than Washington DC. I have been several times and always felt very safe. I would live there, except my wife feels like you do. Even so, she went with me and it was the trip of a lifetime for her.
Xion: Even Baghdad has a lower annual murder rate than Washington, DC, that bastion of liberal (blue “state”) thought!
Why all the hand wringing and tattling? yawners….
I have heard about conversion after dreams. Dont discount it as a tool of the Holy Spirit in the least. Has anyone catalogued what is said/seen in the dreams? Who is the speaker? (Departed relative, carpenter with Jewish appearance)?
At the same time, don’t most Christians in the west disparage all the “near death experience” claims where patients report seeing a warm light source and are overwhelmed with a sense of deep love??
I’ve only been dimly aware of Brother Andrew in the past, but I have to admire his courage.
I hope you won’t find this too off topic. I just found out about it, and thought this was the only thread I could take it to -
It’s rather a shocking story, and those who signed the letter -
We just found out about this. The list of signers regarding the letter is most interesting.
Sorry I repeated myself several times -
Very interested to hear what some of you have to say.
