Meanwhile, in the GOP “race”29 Comments by April 23 12:30 PMWhile most of the attention in Pennsylvania yesterday was on the battle for the Democratic nomination, the Republicans also held a primary in the Keystone State (as NJLawyer commented in last night’s results thread). The presumptive GOP nominee, John McCain, of course, won, capturing nearly 73 percent of the vote. But what about that other 27 percent? Ron Paul, who has not officially stopped running, picked up 16 percent, while Mike Huckabee, who has dropped out of the race, accounted for a little more than 11 percent of the vote. Is this a protest vote against McCain, meaning that he still has a lot of work to do to unite his party? It will be interesting to chart this in the few primaries that remain. Cha-ching!31 Comments by December 17 10:34 AMGuess who’s rolling in the dough after a fundraiser yesterday? The 24-hour event was “the best for any Republican candidate, anywhere, this year.” But will it make a difference or just prolong an inevitable demise? Ron Paul’s new following41 Comments by November 26 10:58 AMRon Paul has picked up an unlikely endorsement … one which he’d probably do well to distance himself from. “Remember, remember the 5th of November”49 Comments by November 6 12:12 PMHarrison recently said, “I like him more and more.” And yesterday, more than 37,000 Ron Paul supporters demonstrated how much they like him by adding more than $4.2 million to his political war chest, the most any Republican candidate for president has raised in a single day. Backers behind the fund-raising effort, which spread virally on the Internet, tied it to Guy Fawkes Day, which commemorates the day in 1605 that Roman Catholic British mercenary Fawkes tried to blow up Parliament and assassinate Protestant King James I. Campaign spokesperson Jesse Benton told The New York Times that Paul doesn’t advocate blowing up governmental buildings: “He wants to demolish things like the Department of Education, but we can do that very peacefully, in a constructive manner.” St. Paul on Leno30 Comments by October 31 2:19 PMLast night, Ron Paul delivered an incredibly cogent and winsome interview on The Tonight Show. I like him more and more. My favorite line from the clip: Paul says, “There probably is a risk that I could win.” Republicans need more irony like that. Until I determine how to post video, you can watch the fabulous 8-minute interview here. |
