Good morning!
Today’s quote is from a Founding Father: “And it proves, in the last place, that liberty can have nothing to fear from the judiciary alone, but would have everything to fear from its union with either of the other departments.”
(If he were alive today, I think he’d take that one back.)

Alexander Hamilton
Good morning. A few days ago MacMurray asked about a blogger that went by the name of Kinzi here on WMB. I emailed her, but so far have not received a reply - The email did not bounce either, as far as I know.
I’ll try again, and double check my spam filter.
I wouldn’t take that quote back. If the judiciary links up with either the executive or the legislature, we’re in trouble. Deep trouble. Just think what would happen if the Congress and the Supremes decided to strip the power of the presidency, or the Congress and the executive passing and signing legislation which guts the court system. It was Congress that created the inferior courts. They can vote them out of existence, too. What if the Supremes supported actions by the president in an effort to bypass the will of the people?
We may not like certain rulings by the Supremes, but the remedy isn’t to gut the Supremes; the remedy is to elect people who will nominate and confirm as judges those people who follow the same line of thought. And there are many things that the Supremes rule unconstitutional for this or that reason — but often these things can be fixed by the Congress. If you’re thinking about abortion, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, and Congress — if it had the will, which is did/does not — could have done a lot more to restrict Roe v. Wade than it has. Congress has “deferred” to the Supremes because we’ve come to accept their decisions, but if Congress had been so against that decision when it came down, it could have fought back. It didn’t. It went along with the Supreme Court on abortion.
Does my avatar show yet?
Yes, it does!!!
Cool.
TJ, sorry I didn’t get back to you yesterday. I know about Camping’s “end of the church age theology” since it’s been around for a few years, now (plus the older “1994″ crapola). That was sort of why I was wondering if anyone else had heard his latest date predictions and hell “theory.” But, oh, they do play beautiful music. I always feel a little guilty listening to it and not contributing, but I could never, ever support Camping.
George Bush is speaking now on tv.
NJL, congress and the Supremes ganged up on the people when they passed campaign finance reform. They will do it again when they pass “fairness in media”.
LAURA HAS AN AVATAR! Is that Laura on a bike, or just a bike?
What happened to the thread about the missionary who was killed in Afghanistan? I made a post, it dissappeared and the thread with it. Do I have the capability for deleting a thread by something I said?
Chas - You’re more powerful than you thought, huh?
Chas, my husband is in South Carolina right now. I told him if he saw someone who looked like Burt Lancaster to tell him, kBells says “hey”.
Chas,
It’s probably on one of the tabs at the top of the page.
I think every blog entry should stay in a chronological list in the left hand sidebard myself. That way it’s intuitive trying to find it. I think it’s aggravating trying to find something that definitely showed up yesterday, but you don’t see it on the left hand sidebar.
And if Laura is sitting on the motorcycle, then she’s awful tiny…
Chas,
I looked in the Archive tab, and searched in the February link, and went through three “Previous Entry” links, and still didn’t find that Blog Entry.
Maybe it is indeed gone….
Speaking of NASA,
I remember being woken up in the early morning hours to watch various exploits, take offs, ocean landings, moon walk, exciting stuff! I think my dad’s enthusiasm wore off as he found the whole idea thrilling and so do I and my brother. So the third grader has been studying the moon and I pulled out some NASA dvd’s about space endeavors and they were absolutely riveted to their chairs and asking a million questions. If you recall how grainy that stuff was and how staticy the radio sounds and compare it to modern tv, I did not think reality would stand a chance. Fun to see the enthusiasm.
mumsee - did you mean to say your dad’s enthusiasm “rubbed” off?
Mommy,
Yes, most definitely. Why don’t we have preview on here? Oh, wait, never mind…
KBells, I’m afraid my claim to look like Burt Lancaster was blown by my avitar. But tell your husband to holler as he passes Hendersonville, NC anyhow. We’re a friendly bunch here.
There was really an entry about a woman who was killed in Afghanistan. She was a graduate of Southwestern Seminary. I even read the link to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram.
I looked for it too. Now I can’t even find Partick Poole amongn the writers. I visited his blog (website?) but the story isn’t there.
Mumsee, we weren’t speaking of NASA, but I’m glad you brought it up. As I said on the “weird jobs” thread, I helped (was in charge two years) make the maps for the Lunar (Apollo) landings. In addition to other mapping requested by NASA.
p.s. It was 19 degrees this morning, but getting warm. KBells’ husband should have nice weather in SC now. It’s a nice place, I hope he enjoys it.

You can’t put fruit back on the tree, not even a cherry.
#14- I remember getting to stay up until midnight to watch the Eagle land on the moon and when Armstrong took the famous “small” first step.
Winter hit hard in Nashville yesterday–it was cold and blustery and snowed all day–the most vicious snowstorm I’ve seen in the South. (Oh wait, did I mention that every time the sun came out it melted whatever had managed to accumulate so far?) I had a crazy, crazy deadline, and since I like to watch snow but don’t like to be out in it, it made a nice background to my day at the computer. I have a nice view of the outdoors from my computer desk–the trees in my front yard backed up by other trees behind them.
Anyway, hello before I go finish another project that got interrupted by this rush one.
My sister has a new baby due anytime–not officially till mid-March, but she thinks it will come early. And she’s hoping for tomorrow–she has always wanted a baby born on February 29, and this will probably be her only real chance at that! It will interrupt my weekend plans if that happens, but that’s a happy kind of interruption, so it would be OK.
Chas,
What was the thread called? I looked under “Active” but didn’t see a title that looked related.
Chas, campaign finance reform isn’t a bad idea. If there was a way to really limit the money and really limit the time we spend on a presidential race to let’s say 10 weeks, I’d go for it. This time around is ridiculous.
Chas,
We were indeed speaking of NASA. I can not be held responsible for all those intervening comments and the leap from the jobs thread, can I?
Peter L,
My dad used to take us outside at night to watch satellites go overhead. Amazing stuff, and then the space missions. Wow. The world changed a lot in a hundred years. I took one of the girls on a trip through a local cemetery and she was amazed when I mentioned that some of the people buried there had probably never ridden in or even seen an automobile.
Chas: Did you want a special article? I have a link to one article that was sent by a young woman who does work in Afghanistan. I can still get to it. I don’t know if this is what you want but will give the address to it, just in case.
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7266283.stm
Cameron, I forgot what the thread is called; it’s a real puzzle. It just disappeared, I searched Drudge and he didn’t have anything. But Partick Poole had a thread about a woman who had gone to Southwestern Seminary. It had a link to the Ft Worth “Star-Telegram”, which I visited. But now, nobody knows anything about it. I could be convinced that I’m imagining things except Sawgunner and RDean had already made comments.
Sawgunner, RDean, don’t come here and say you don’t remember that. I’ll question my sanity.
NJL. The campaign finance reform bill was not only a bad idea, but they aren’t following it. There is always a way for people who have money and influence to get around the law. But “bundeling” is not illegal. They just wanted to appear to be doing something.
An article on NewsMax says the Democrats will impose the “Fairness Doctrine” if elected. I expect McCain will too.
This presidential race may be rediculous, but there’s no way to fix it without amending the constitution. The “Campaign Finance” law was really a “protect the incumbents” law.
The biggest culprit in all this is television. We can’t do anything about that.
Mumsee, one thing I learned early. When the women in your life say something is so, It’s so. We were, in fact talking about NASA. As you said, some people interrupted us.
I used to think it was interesting to watch a satellite move through the stars. And I remember when Sputnick was launched. Most of you don’t remember, but it was a big deal. The big factor in the 1960 election: Kennedy lambasted the Republicans over the “missile gap”. It was closed a couple of months after he took office. That’s how good he was.
KI, thanks, but I’m referring to an entry posted early this morning about a woman who was killed in Afghanistan.
Chas, I could have sworn that bundling was something they did in bed during colonial times to keep warm, so that made me laugh. We’ll have to use internet power to stop the fairness doctrine. It’s unAmerican.
Chas,
I remember the thread. I had not commented in it, but I do remember it.
For those of you asking about the Patrick Poole post from earlier today, it was posted prematurely and removed from the site by the editors.
Mickey. I can understand that. The story is found nowhere else. I would think Drudge would have something on an event like that. I couldn’t even find it on the “Star-Telegram” this afternoon. But it was confusing.
thanks.
Chas: The biggest culprit in all this is television. We can’t do anything about that.
You’re kidding aren’t you?
“WE” can do darn near anything we want as a condition of a broadcast license. WE own the airwaves.
Ok, it’s not looking well for “National Shorts Day” on March 1st, which is the day after tomorrow. If it doesn’t warm up by at least 10 degrees, I’m gonna be one cold guy! Well, I don’t care - unless it’s snowing I’m wearing my shorts on Saturday. One must do everything they can to hurry the arrival of Spring.
Come on over to my house in Sonoma County, Anlir. It’s a glorious 72 outside with not a cloud in the sky. I’m going out to prune in just a minute–maybe even in shorts.
Be right over Michelle!
When I lived in San Rafael we used to drive up to Santa Rosa to go to the nearest Wendy’s.
Just checking in. I went on the fourth grade field trip to Montgomery today. We went to the Rosa Parks Museum. It was really well done. Sort of reminded me of the Holocaust Museum in DC. The flags in Montgomery were at half mast today. I asked why and was told because Johnny Carr died. Do any of my fellow southerners, northerners, easterners or westerners know who she was???? If you answer correctly I will tell you all the rest of what happened
Kim,
I’m going to guess that she joined Rosa Parks in the Montgomery bus boycott.
Speaking of NASA -
It is a little-known fact that the first moon landing was a birthday present for my dad, who celebrated his 35th birthday that day.
I think Anlir is right, but is it Johnny or Johnnie?
Well Thank you Anlir. She was also a good friend of Mrs. Parks. Interesting that the night Rosa was arrested a white man paid her bail. I never knew that. Somewhere along the lines I thought MLK Jr. did.
Anyway I did not know who Johnny Car was when they told me she had died today. I looked at the curator and said and she is??? When they told me I sail well color me white. All three of them cracked up
Thanks a million Karen O!
Well maybe thanks a dime. Your father is younger than I am. That means you could be my granddaughter.
It was an exciting time for me also, for another reason.
As for TV, “we” can’t do anything about broadcast license. The bureacracy does. Besides that isn’t the problem. The problem is the way politics has been influenced by the tube.
I note the passing away of Larry Norman. He was 60 years old and considered the pioneer of CCM.
Larry’s gone too? Buckley and Norman gone… Boy the world is indeed a poorer place.
Kyle A. wins! Alexander Hamilton is correct. Please enjoy your (decaf) digital cappucino, served from lovely Santa Barbara.
