Prenup with God
I need a prenuptial agreement with the Lord. I get nowhere in this mindset of forever looking at the outcomes of things to decide if he is trustworthy or not.
Outcome leads to outcome — one seems bad, but then turns good, and then turns bad again. There is no end to this. To make it work, you would need to see the end of the entire chain, and no man sees that. In other words, you would need the omniscience of a god.
I was talking to a man who was ready to bail out of his relationship with God because he hadn’t slept two nights in a row, in spite of much prayer. If there had been dirt handy, and sackcloth on my back, I would have repented for us both in the Old Testament way.
Here is my Prenuptial with my Husband. Here are my terms and legal conditions regarding the possible future dissolution of this marriage. Let the angels be my witnesses and Saint Peter notarize:
Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation (Habakkuk 3;17,18).

Wonderful point and passage!
Thanks for shining some light on what I call “front end fatih!” Faith is a virtue because it is not all shored up with safe certainty on the front end. Actually, on the front end, we must take a step of great courage before the proverbial bird is in the hand.
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1
“By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had witness borne to him that he was righteous, God bearing witness in respect of his gifts: and though it he being dead speaketh…for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, that that he is a rewarder of them that seek after him.”
I have read that faith looks back and hope looks forward. Since real faith is based on evidence, we must continually look back to what God has done. We find he is faithful and then live in hope and confidence. Easy to say, but we have an enemy who likes to shake that faith.
We come as little children. They learn to trust their parents as their parents take care of them. When uncertain situations arise, they turn to those parents, trusting them to take care of things. Parents are imperfect and human, but the analogy is there.
Not only do we have the Word which teaches us, but God’s Spirit. I also believe He often gives us things in our lives that we can look back on and know He was working on our behalf. When we are uncertain, we remember those times and trust Him.
Andree,
This is excellent!
What a blessed reminder of what God has ordained for us!
Thank you!!!
True luv waits.
Good points. Hard teaching. Even harder pre-nup (for me).
I often look back at the things God did to “get me through” hard times - in order to encourage myself that God IS “in the problem”. Sometimes this works, but then my mind flashes to “those times” that did not seem to work out so well - and I get all mixed up. Like flower petals pulled out one at a time - thinking “God is trustable… maybe He is not…” while each petal drops to the ground, I too waver daily not on His goodness, really, but His ability to get me through as painlessly as possible.
I guess this is the rub - God is not interested in my pain condition - per say - as much as He is concerned about my heart condition.
