Have a good
I know lots of crazy people, mostly family, I must be fine.
If one out of four people have something, it’s not an illness anymore. It’s a personality trait.
Everyone I know is a little bit off.
I always thought that if you ever met a totally normal person you would find them strange. You would probably say something like, “You know he just creeps me out. He’s just too…normal.”
When I was in middle school I had a shrt that said “Normal People Scare Me.”
shirt, that is.
I once was normal.
But I grew out of it.
Normal is just another word for mediocre.
A Philosophical Contribution–
“Normal” describes an exterior standard, as though each and every human were measured against what humans should be .
“Average” describes an interior standard, so humans are all measured against each other.
No one is normal.
Everyone who’s been to law school is a headcase, so ….
My parents were treated for mental illness, my brother-in-law has bipolar disorder, my husband and I are treated for depression … that leaves lots of room for “normal” friends! (Who’d like to sign up?)
I’ve also read that one in ten is a sociopath . . .
Welcome to 08-08-08. Did anyone look at the clock at 8:08 and catch the significance?
As to “normal,” in my church we all accept (and joke about) being off center and not the right place for anyone who wants to maintain an image of perfection and normalcy. It’s refreshing. (That doesn’t mean we tolerate sin, but we confess it rather than denying it and hiding it. And we don’t pretend we aren’t quirky.)
The lady with cancer and her husband are traveling to Mexico for treatment next week (separately–she’s flying and he’s driving so he can take her stuff). He’ll be doing a very long drive in two days, and she’ll be going for treatment in a foreign country far from family, where she probably can’t gather her family at the last moment if she turns deathly ill quickly. And I’d guess the clinic probably doesn’t have much success with stage 4 cancer. I think it’s an act of desperation and not of wise treatment, but I would appreciate prayers for them, their kids, and me. (I’d thought I’d be able to come alongside and love her in the months ahead, but my trip to see her a couple weeks ago might well be my last time to see her.)
CherylD — done.
Cheryl - Prayers from me, too.
I’m in kind of a similar situation. I suspect a good friend may have finally succumbed to her cancer, but haven’t heard from her family yet (she lives in another state). (Yes, I’ve written & asked, & am waiting for a reply.)
Regarding “normal vs. nuts” - Ever notice how everyone (or nearly everyone) likes to let on about how weird or nuts or crazy (or any other word meaning non-normal) they are? Who ever actually boasts about being normal?
Well, maybe someone who has recovered from a real mental illness might boast about being normal.
I notice teens, especially, go through a phase where they often talk about how weird they are.
So, if everyone’s a little-to-a-lot weird/nuts, then it stands to reason that “normal” is really abnormal.
Karen O,
Are there mental illnesses that can be fully recovered from, as opposed to just being able to function normally through proper treatment? And I would think, having experienced the mental illness, that one would never be fully sure it couldn’t recur. (And due to the nature of mental illness, could one even be sure that it hadn’t already recurred?)
Back in my late teens and early twenties, we used to have some pretty raging bashes called “Why Be Normal?” parties. Usually a band, lots of dancing, general craziness and tomfoolery. Very fun times.
Wanted to let you all know…I miscarried yesterday (1 week after a positive pregnancy test).
I’m tired and sad, but otherwise okay.
It helps to know that God has all the information, and He is always good. I have just a sliver of the truth. So our family is resting in His goodness, thankful for the grace He’s pouring out on us.
Thanks for your prayers.
I’m so very sorry, MOMof5.
What a good attitude you have…it’s encouraging to me.
MOMof5: I’m so sorry for your loss. You and your family will remain in my prayers.
Momof5–Focus on the Family today was talking about miscarriage in a way I hadn’t heard before. www.family.org
It helped me, a fraction, to realize one in three babies are miscarried–and that everyone in my home group Bible study had lost a child through miscarriage. You’re not alone.
But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t mourn the lost dreams, hopes, and the child. Go ahead and grieve. It gets better; though even all these years later it still makes me feel sad and jumbled to remember.
Blessings.

Sorry to hear about your loss. You will be in my prayers.
A great political cartoon for a beautiful Friday afternoon
I am so very sorry Momof5. I will keep you and your husband in prayer.
Psalm 56:8
You have taken account of my wanderings;Put my tears in Your bottle Are they not in Your book?
Our heavenly Father keeps your tears in his bottle.
momof5,
I am so sorry for your loss.
Our prayers are with you.
Momof5,
I’m sorry that you’ve lost the little one. Praying for you and your family.
Momof5, I’m so sorry. I add my prayer for you and your husband and your other children, especially that six year old.
Momof5 - I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. My prayers are with you.
Momof5,
I’m sorry too. I know it’s hard.
Momof5
My heart goes out to you. Your grace and faith are wonderful.
I’m reminded of my mom just now, hope you don’t mind me sharing this with you.
My mom carried a child before she had me to full term. Her little bundle was ’still born’ in her grief her first words were “thank you LORD” she always spoke of this, and was surprised even at her own trust in the LORD Jesus Christ. She knew that it was HIS Will, that she would never know why this happened until she went to be with the LORD. My mom would always remember her birthday, and as I grew older, I did too, with moms favorite flowers. My mothers trust in the LORD and my fathers has given me so much strength during my life.
GOD bless you mom of five. Your dear little daughter who gave you her dollie will most always remember this througout her life, it most likely will give her understanding she would never have had.
Love and prayers,
Victoria
M o 5: Sorry to hear of your loss. We have been there a couple of times, but the Lord gives grace for every situation.
Momof5. I’m sorry for your loss and pray the Lord will you and yours comfort in this difficult time.
Joe B- “Has anyone been following the outbreak of hostilities between Russia and the former USSR state of Georgia?”
I’ve been following it a bit. Not a good situation.
Interestingly,McCain’s top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, worked as a paid lobbyist for the state of Georgia while working on McCain’s campaign.
Similar to his economic adviser, Phil Gramm, running the tax-evasion scheme for Swiss bank UBS while he advised McCain as his top economic adviser.
And McCain’s choice of Doug Goodyear, who was a paid lobbyist for the Myanmar Regime.
McCain sure attracts and hires some real sleezeballs.
#19 Karen O,
I thought the new normal was nuts?
Llamas don’t like nuts we prefer less stressful, healthier, and definitely greener substitutes like whack jobs.
Thank you all. I feel very much tucked up under the Father’s wing today. Snug and safe and loved.
This blog is a blessing. You have touched my heart and encouraged me today. God bless you.
PS– I did take a nap with my 6 y/o’s doll yesterday after we buried our little one in the “family plot” where another of our babies is. Her (6 y/o) eyes were shining. Isn’t it a powerful thing to be able to offer comfort? Even for a child? “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
Victoria,
Your mom sounds like quite a lady. I recently finished reading “Hind’s Feet on High Places”.
It sounds like your mom knew how to grasp the hands of Sorrow and Suffering, trusting the Shepherd to guide her path.
What a legacy!
So sorry, Momof5. I’m praying for you and your family.
Momof5 - You have my prayers, too.
Pauline - I guess I was thinking of someone put on meds that greatly help their ability to cope & think, therefore using the word “recovered” was a goof on my part.
Momof5
My mom was a lady, and so are you my friend.
God bless you and your family.
Tomorrow morning Grandson will leave to drive back to college with a buddy. This is the first time he has ever driven this far [about 1400 miles], so I’m asking for prayers for a safe trip for both of them. They have been wise enough to plan a couple of overnight stops along the way, so I’m not really worried, it’s just that I’m being a Grandma and they’re each only 19.
Kayvee, I just prayed for your grandson and his friend. I’ll continue to remember them in prayer.
Momof%, I’m sorry. Like others I’ve been there. We lost our only biological child very early. Naming them helps.
Correction that should be momof5 not momof%.
On mental illness: I have heard that insanity is inherited from our children.
Mom of 5
My family members have had similar experiences. I hope for the best for you and your family.

Momof5 — losing a child(ren) is an experience that only those who experience it can understand, you have my sympathy. I always found comfort in the one I have.
