Must-see video
San Diego Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson won the Bart Starr Athletes in Action award this year. The award honors Starr’s lifelong commitment to serving as a positive role model to his family, teammates and community. The winner is determined by NFL player balloting at the end of the regular season, making the award one of the few individual honors selected by the players themselves.
I don’t know what rock I’ve been hiding under, because it was way back in February when Tomlinson won the award. But my husband just ran across the video below of his acceptance speech last night — a poignant clip showing a brand of humility, faith, and gratitude that is never old news.

I didn’t hear about this award, either, Lynn, but it doesn’t surprise me. LT is, plainly and simply, a good man.
I think Lynn posted this to counter my Redskins post from yesterday.
Mickey, they were both good videos.
Lynn, Lynn, Lynn…(sigh)
I missed you when you were gone.
What I didn’t miss was the Chargers-worship!!

I’m going to the first service of the year tomorrow — QualComm Stadium 7pm
Lynn,
Tomlinson is one of the good guys. He’d look better in blue though.
Be sure to wave to the QB the Giants knew wasn’t the best in that draft as well. The best QB in that draft, the #1 pick, already has a Super Bowl ring. Oh, and a Super Bowl MVP as well. You got us in the RB dept. though.
And Mickey,
Yeah that Art Monk seems like a good guy too. Shame he was a stinkin’ Redskin. But still better than bein’ a Cowgirl, or worst of all, an Eagle.
What a thrill to know that this great athlete is a devoted Christian and a good, humble man who loves to compete and win-and hates to lose. My only trouble with him is that he’s very dangerous against the Pats and ls capable of beating them.
Also, Lynn it is so good to have you back giving us interesting threads.
THE REAL AJ: Actually, Monk did play three games for the Eagles in 1995.
