Happy Monday!
Today’s quote is from a movie producer and director: “Our greatest natural resource is the minds of our children.”

Today’s quote comes from Walt Disney
I hope Lynn is well this morning.
If you’re online, we’re thinking of you.
“There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates’ loot on Treasure Island and at the bottom of the Spanish Main… and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life.” - Walt Disney
Well today I have to go back to work. I really was loving this job until Little Missy showed up. None of us in our department sold a car Saturday and the few deals we did try to work she was always in the bosses office putting in her two cents worth. I finally had all I could take at one point and told her to keep her mouth shut for 10 seconds and let me discuss my deal. It would be different if I were just being a catty woman but the men in the department are over it too. The one guy who “recommended” her has stood up in our call center room and apologized to everyone.
Kim
I always thought there was an “unspoken” rule that no one interrupted a salesman of any sort (selling cars, houses, appliances, anything) unless the salesman initiated the exchange. I’ve noticed that for a long time.
I would like to make a prayer request. My company has an opening in Dallas. For the longest time, my heart has really been aching to go back home to Texas. I would ask that folks here at WMB pray that the Lord have his perfect will in this decision. If He does not want me there, then the door will be closed. If he wants me there in that position, He will open the door. I would also ask that everyone pray that if He places me there, that I might do my best to glorify Him there in Dallas.
When I was looking up movie times for “Expelled” on Fandango I noticed this note for one of the theaters under the ticket prices- “No children under age 6 will be admitted to any R-Rated feature after 6:00 p.m.” Umm… Why would you take a 5 year old to an R-rated movie at all?
Yes Chas that is the way it has always been for me. I have to keep reminding myself that this child is only 18. I was so frustrated Saturday. I even handed one of my deals to a senior sales rep right in front of my sales mananger and assistant sales manager and asked “Will YOU tell me if I have a deal?”
Joe, here’s praying that you get to go home to Dallas. It just might be that God is opening that door.
Pray for me that I don’t strangle Little Missy today.
Paula, believe it or not, some parents probably look at a movie, even a rated-R movie, as a cheap(er) baby-sitter. Way back in the “dating days”, Cameron and I went to see this horrible movie (I forget the title) about a serial killer that even had images of vivisection by the killer in it. A family, including a 5 or 6 year old and a toddler, were in theater. It was evident by the sounds of it that the young children were very troubled by the images on screen.
So in my morning perusal of the news, I find a couple articles worthy of poking fun.
The first one is where Jimmy Carter tells us that Hamas is prepared to accept the right of Israel to “live as a neighbor next door in peace.”
Um… did the president fall off of one of his habitat houses and bump his head? The day Hamas is ready to live in peace with Israel is the day the last Israeli is buried.
The other one is where Gore tells us there’s been no improvement in the Global Warming.. er… oops, ’scuse me folks it’s now “Climate Change”…. there’s been no improvement in the Climate Change situation since his movie.
Yeah Al, you heightened our awareness of the hype surrounding this issue and so we feel free to be worried about other things…
To be fair I saw this other article on pollution that shows how the scent of flowers is diluted by pollution and fewer plants get pollinated as a result. Less plants, less bees, less plants, less bees- vicious cycle. I’m more worried about this issue caused by pollution, than I am about “Global Warming”.
Joe, You have been given the opportunity for a desire you have had for some time. Get on it! If it is the right position for you, do what you need to get that position. The Lord be your guide.
JoeB, my prayers are with you. I am going on an interview this afternoon, too, and it would take me in a somewhat different direction towards something I have wanted to do, too. So I know how you feel. I do believe that God puts us where we are supposed to be when we are supposed to be there! You have “neverthelessed” it, and that’s what’s important. As my old boss would say, “good luck to you in your professional endeavors.”
MakeItMan, trees have always been important to me for some odd reason. They cut them down here in Jersey when they build, then put in requirements that a shade tree can only be just so high. All those big trees are gone because no one wants to rake up the leaves. And more trees will help with pollution. If we have problems, it’s because of this attitude about trees. Al Gore’s cause will go away when people get tired of it, but a tree put in the ground today will be here long after.
Kim, when someone is called “Little Missy” it can only mean one thing. I know you took Missy aside the other day, but maybe it needs to be said bluntly in front of others, without animosity, that if she wants to get on in the job, certain adjustments need to be made immediately. Good luck to you today, too.
Thank you Kim and Grandma for your prayers and support.
Joe B,
We are still wishing God would send telegrams with exact life plans, but as He is not so inclined, I will be joining you in prayer that you will be attuned to His Will in your life, following His Plan and being a life pointing others toward Him. It is interesting how He often prepares a heart for a move before the move time.
Mumsee, if he did I would probably argue with him. “God, are you sure you helped me through six years of college so I could spend the day at a little league baseball park playing valet to a four year old.”
KBell,
Ah, yes, the joys of knowing our life plan better than God does.. “I am going to be a (insert plan) when I grow up.” “I am going to live in (place) and make “$’s)” And God watches and continues to work and we find ourselves in a totally different life saying, “Wow! Things sure worked out well with my plan!”
Joe B.: You’ve earned the coffee of the day–what shall it be?
For those who care to know: I have told the pretender that I will not wear pink.
(Sat WV thread)
#123. by Peter L 04.21.08 at 12:49 pm
Sorry, Victoria. I don’t wear pink unless it is a minor part of something else. Bong away!
(That’s what I get for not being around much yesterday!)
Kristin, I think I will have Spiced Chai Tea with cream a sugar today. The Ginger is good for digestion.
What in the world?? Joe B, has Lynn been forcing you to drink that old urn stuff when all this time you were a Chai drinker?
Thanks for the clarification Peter. I’ll wear pink, just not pink shoes… And certainly not pink strappy sandals…
Some of those colors are good solid Winter colors and look good with a black or dark navy suit coat.
Joe
I’m praying Joe that you will receive a clear leading from the LORD as to your moving to Texas.
God bless you as you seek HIS Will.
Kim, why won’t the Mgr. step in a talk to this kid? That’s just not good business on their part.
Peter, how about a small ‘minor’ pin, …. it could say “yeah pink sandals”
I, like most of you, don’t like Michael Moore that much. But I still found his letter endorsing Obama pretty well phrased, and moving to boot.
http://www.michaelmoore.com/words/message/index.php?id=225
MIM, …. OK, a pink shirt for you is on its way, light weight cotton for summer.
And no I don’t regularly visit michaelmoore.com. I was linked there by Politico. But I’m glad I did.
Make It Man missed the big story. The propaganda war waged by the Pentagon against American Citizens. They are using “Military Analysts” who appear on “the news” and who in most cases have businesses profiting from the war. Together these analysts represent more than 150 military contractors either as lobbyists, senior executives, board members or consultants, and are fed talking points in private meetings and trips with Pentagon Officials. Fail to deliver the talking points and they lose access for their businesses.
Deep in the archives of my mind, I seem to remember that when the teacher stepped out, she authorized a student or two to take notes. In our case, I believe Kristin was handed the duty. In the beginning, I was willing to overlook Victoria’s attempts at “helping” but I begin to see a trend here and I believe she is attempting to install her own personal agenda of “Men In Pink”. We need to put a stop to it now or she will indeed become the usurper and life as we know it will fade into the mists of time and legend.
#10 Make It Man,
There has also been no change concerning the insanity of President Carter and alGore either. Nothing a good dose of electroshock treatments won’t cure.
Then they could both write another book about finally returning to sanity and possibly share a Pulitzer Prize
Luke 25,
I read the letter you cited. I did not find it well phrased or moving. I do not pay a whole lot of attention to the political games until much later in the season so don’t know much about this but found it interesting to read that “the horrible pastor” was their spiritual counselor as well.
Joe B:
I’m a chai fan myself. Enjoy your Spiced Chai Tea with cream and sugar.
Luke, I agree in that the actions and words of Hillary Clinton have gone to downright disgusting. So, she won’t get my vote.
Mumsee, Victoria’s “Men in Pink” cursade is bound to fail. However it seems that her “Pink Pumps Brigade” is well along. Almost everyone but AJISUUN has succummed to it. I don’t know about you because you’re still wearing snow boots, and Cameron hasn’t signed in. It has me worried.
Chas,
No danger of me succumbing.
About twenty years ago I owned a pair of pink pumps, which I bought because they went well with a dress I really liked. Not hot pink, though - a nice pastel pink. Both dress and pumps are long gone, though I don’t remember whether it was due to them wearing out, my gaining weight and not being able to wear them any longer, or getting married and finding out from my husband that pink doesn’t go well with my red hair.
I haven’t bought anything pink since then, except for pink pants and top two years ago (purchased from Goodwill) for a Halloween costume, when I was a “pig in a blanket.” (I forget which blanket I wore.)
I can’t remember the last time I wore pumps of any color. I never had very good balance - I can fall off my own feet when I’m wearing flats - but a foot injury several years ago that eliminated the arch in my right foot convinced me that flats were the way to go.
Chas, no it isn’t as you say:
“Mumsee, Victoria’s “Men in Pink” cursade is bound to fail.”
You would love it if it failed, but it won’t. Lot’s of ‘real men’ wear pink shirts, they wear them to play golf too. Go to any golf course and take a look.
On second thought, I do remember the last time I wore pumps. For Christmas of 2006 the theater group at our church put on a production of “It’s a Wonderful Life” (the musical), and women in the show (I was the bank examiner) were required to wear “character shoes” - which are basically pumps with a strap as far as I can tell. Strictly black, though. And even with gel inserts, my feet ached so bad that in between scenes, when I wasn’t on stage, I would sit down and take my shoes off.
Mr. Mgr is protecting Little Missy. Today I have changed the colors. I am wearing black linen capris and a light blue wrap top with black and white “fronds” and black sandals. Not the strappy ones though.
Why does Mr. Mgr protect Little Missy? If she interferes with sales production that doesn’t say much for his managerial capabilities.
Chas - I have been away from the blog for most of the weekend with only the occasional short visit, but I did not weigh in on the shoes. I am in no danger of succumbing to the pink high heeled strappy sandal craze. I cannot wear heels. I have nerve damage from a herniated disc that makes a portion of my left foot numb. We refer to it as my stupid foot, and well, heels and the stupid foot were just not meant for one another. I am condemned to wear sensible shoes for the rest of my life, most of which are not the least bit stylish.
My stupid foot conspires against me, especially when I the least bit tired or fatigued, and tries to make me fall upstairs on my way to bed. It seems the brain sends the message, but the foot is out to lunch and not taking messages. Allowing the stupid foot to have the advantage by giving it strappy high heeled sandals with which to plot skinned knees and scraped shins? I think I’ll pass.
KLasko, It appears you have made a wise decision. My wife only wears SAS shoes. I don’t know if they make anythng else other than those flats that look like fancy tennis shoes. (Don’t anyone tell her I said that! I’m glad she doesn’t do computers.) But that’s what she needs now.
As I said before, she used to wear spiked heels that left permanent prints in the linolium floor of our house trailer.
Victoria: A pink shirt would clash with my red eyes.
Klasko, I’m going all over the internet looking for a sensible pair of ‘hot pink flat’ shoes just for you.
Chas, we don’t want you ‘clashing’ with anything more than you do already on the blog.
You are still on the top of the list with your two friends.
Victoria - if you find them, I’ll wear them. Just for you.
Okay, Luke, I read Michael Moore’s letter. I liked this paragraph:
“It’s foolish to see the Democrats as anything but a nicer version of a party that exists to do the bidding of the corporate elite in this country. [I think that’s true, and I’m glad a Dem finally admitted it!] Any endorsement of a Democrat must be done with this acknowledgement and a hope that one day we will have a party that’ll represent the people first, and laws that allow that party an equal voice.” [the end of this I don’t get.]
It was mostly Hillary bashing rather than outlining reasons why he likes Obama. A better letter would have been more about Obama, the candidate he favors, rather than a hit job on the one he doesn’t.
OK Klasko, I’m on the hunt for ‘hot pink flats’-
I wonder what Lynn will say when she sees all of her little posters in pink shoes, that is, ALL the good little posters.
Has anyone else read this story today?
Children’s hospital launches sex change for kids program
‘This isn’t conjecture, it’s happening now’
April 19, 2008
By Bob Unruh
A doctor at the renowned Children’s Hospital Boston has launched a new program to drug children to delay puberty so they can decide whether they want a male or a female body, according to a report today in the Boston Globe.
Victoria, where do you find these things?!
This line was interesting: “You have to explain to the patients that if they go ahead, they may not be able to have children. … But if you don’t start treatment, they will always have trouble fitting in,” he said.”
How is a kid able to make a decision about whether or not they may want children in the future? They have no understanding of what it is to be an adult, let alone a parent. If you ask a kid if he/she wants to fit in, of course, they’ll say yes! This is child abuse.
Victoria has hurt my feelings.
Yesterday I mentioned that I can’t wear heels, & would like a pair of hot pink flats. Did Victoria offer to search for hot pink flats for me? NO!
She likes Klasko better than she likes me. I’m gonna go pout now.
Don’t know if I’ll be back after this slight.
NJL
I cannot fathom how this so called doctor can advocate such treatment. Our society, decency, morals, common sense appears to have taken a permanent vacation.
I believe FIRMLY we are in the very last days, that’s why we see the shocking results of sin, children turning from their parents, and parents turning to their own lusts and desires, not giving one hoot as to the end result.
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2 Timothy 3
NJL, this passage is haunting, it should grip all of to EXAMINE OURSELVES, to draw closer to our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ.
We can’t stop these things, but we can proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and warn others who aren’t following HIM.
As to where I find these things? I read a lot of news throughout the day.
Poor, poor Karen. I’ll look for a pair of ‘hot pink flats’ for you too.
You are all turning into a bunch of babies!
Has anything taken upon themselves the position of Party Chairman for Lynn’s WELCOME BACK PARTY? You should also have a CO-chairman if you can get along that long.
Pauline,
Stay with me now and stand against the rising tide of pink. Red heads unite! I guess I’ll never be a “good little poster”. Rumor has it that I’m too nice to take on the BONG queen. Well…I may be nice, but I’m also stubborn.
For those of you who have trouble with heels and need more support for your feet, may I suggest looking into Chaco sandals. They have an orthopeadic foot bed. I wear them all summer and even golf in them. I work on cement floors and they are excellent for that also. They make them in pink (last I checked).
50. I can get the Elvis impersonator back.
Victoria,
We are in the last days. Keep in mind “there is nothing new under the sun.” As we study scripture we can see what has been continues to be apart of our world today.
Parents have allowed the world to dictate what is best for their child instead of relying on their God given common sense. Everyone wants to fit in and this is just another way to make sure they do. They don’t want to parent, they want to be friends. We have forgotten what is truly important. What a horrible thing.
Grandma, Thanks for the tip on the Chacos. I’ll have to check them out next time I’m in America. I live in my Birkenstocks all year round, but it would be nice to have something that isn’t quite as clunky as the Birks. I still won’t wear pink ones though!
They have a website.
www.chacousa.com
Grandma, I checked it out already. I have a pair picked out, but probably won’t buy them until I can try some on. So it will have to wait until I’m back in the U.S. next year.
Grandma
I posted a passage of Scripture in post #49 over an hour ago, which pointed to 2 Timothy 3. As I said we are in the last days, I agree with you.
I don’t agree with you that —- “Parents have allowed the world to dictate what is best for their child instead of relying on their God given common sense”
Many school administrations have done these things without parents knowledge.
I know for a fact, through many of my contacts that the laws for young girls obtaining abortions, without parental consent was not as one would call it ‘advertised’ before it was made law.
The media, internet, instant news has made it much more difficult for those who wish to hide a schools agenda, however much of this is to late. The educational system has taken positions which Believers and those with a moral compass do not agree with.
Liberal attitudes are not just held in high regard within college and Universities in this nation, the education system, —- those who are leaders in local and state public schools are just as liberal.
I would agree regarding the end times. Yes, there’s nothing new under the sun, but there’s way much more of it now. And everyone seems so comfy with it all. Parents who agree to the sort of “medicine” Victoria posted about should not be parents. That’s just crazy.
(I saw hot pink flats in either the Maryland Square or Auditions catalogs.)
NJL, many parents, no matter how involved they are with their children’s school have no idea the power they (schools) have within many school districts.
Parents fight for their rights, they fight to keep their children from being taught sexual behavior and choices of just what KIND they might try out.
We aren’t “And everyone seems so comfy with it all” —- that just isn’t true or fare to parents, there is no such thing as “everyone” –
In many instances there isn’t a thing we can do EXCEPT send children to a private school or home-school, that’s the choice. Think about all the parents who MUST work, those who are single parents, those who cannot afford private school. It’s a terrible situation for some people to be in.
Victoria- I do have to confess that I was forced to wear a pink ribbon at a conference I attended in October. It being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I succumbed, especially since the lady at the registration table would not let me enter without it.
Peter
I’m glad you agreed to wear it. SOOO, don’t worry, you don’t have to wear a pink pin or shirt, or shoes. Are you happy now?
Victoria - I read a book about different homeschooling situations. One single mom, who had to work of course, still managed to homeschool her kids when they were old enough to leave at home. They would do their lessons while their mom was at work.
This isn’t an easy or perfect solution, but an option for a working mom who really wanted to get her kids out of pubic school.
Well, thank you for including me in your pink flats search. I’ve dried my tears & stopped pouting.
Karen, I have just baked 4 dozen pink cookies with sprinkles on top. Would you like some?
Victoria,
Point well taken. The public school does do much without our knowledge. We can’t know everything. They have our children for 7+ hours a day.
We did homeschool our two youngest and we have 4 children (including in-law children) who teach in public school. We hear much about what happens there.
I feel like I got bonked with that scepter.:-) Can I still make Heaven and Earth Bars for the welcome back party. I know you will love them.
I have to go away and work for a while now.
One other thing, my husband served on the school board for 6 years. That position gives you an insight into what goes on inside the school administration.
Grandma,
I’m not BONGING anyone today, its a ‘free no bong day’ for everyone. My arm is tired from all the bonging I’ve been doing …
I’m sure everyone is going to take advantage of my KIND and GENTLE nature today.
Earth Bars sound great, I’ve never had one. What flavor are they?
Part of the problem is that Mr. Mgr hired Little Missy and he hates to be wrong about anyone. He is protecting her. She follows him around and listens in on everything. This morning he was on his cell phone talking to the General Manager about me and I had to run interference to keep her away from him so she wouldn’t hear my business. She must have gotten part of it because it was all over the dealership by 2pm.
Kim,
How long has Mr. Mgr known little Missy?
Did you inform Mr. Mgr about Missy gossiping about your private business?
HEAVEN AND EARTH Bars have a shortbread crust, brownie middle, and a whipped creamy chocolate frosting.
Kim,
I really dislike car dealerships. Want to know why? Or have you been figuring it all out?
Interesting but true story. I worked for a several car dealerships, but the last one I worked for was probably the worst. I found out several things after I left there that explained quite a bit. But there was one incident there that will illustrate what it was like…
The incident in question really revolved around a service writer and the oil change man. On occasion they had been known to light up a reefer behind the store, and come back up front reeking. In order to have grounds to fire them, the owner (who had two dealerships) ordered “random” drug testing. Well we ALL had to go for drug testing… Well what happened was that they caught several of their managers in addition to the original suspects. Of course I have no idea what possessed anyone to take the tests if they knew they’d come up positive. The irritating thing was that most of the managers just went to work at the other store…
I found out later that same year that the parts manager hadn’t been sending in his part returns for a couple years, and finally got canned. We’d already been through several service managers, and of course sales managers came and went. The only one I was sorry to see go was a salesman who was very professional in all my dealings with him. He truly listened to customers and only sold them what they needed. I imagine he left of his own volition since the place was so sorry.
After I quit that job, I found out that the owner (who had won some kind of award as one of the state’s top minority business owners of the year) had not paid taxes for a couple of years… Welp. So much for that! He lost both stores and I have no idea what his situation is now.
I’m glad I don’t work this kind of place anymore. I don’t have that kind of patience now.
Mr. Mgr only met Little Missy when he hired her but she has such a hard luck story. 18 with a 3 old and a 14 yr old brother she is raising. 31 yr old “husband” is in prison…
Yes I did go back to him and tell him I didn’t want her knowing my business and that she had overheard part of it. I really don’t fit in …one of my coworkers has taken to calling me Mary Poppins and explained to me that I was too uptight and white. But then there is the satisfaction of getting someone with bad or no credit into a car.
Sounds good Grandma, I’ve never had them, but look forward to tasting yours. I love “whipped creamy chocolate frosting” — You must be a wonderful Grandma, how many little ones do you have?
When you post Grandma I think of my own wonderful Grandmother. She loved the LORD with all her heart, she lived to serve HIM, she loved us, and I will never forget her. I’m looking forward to throwing my arms around her when I get to Heaven.
Victoria (I almost said, “VICKY”), I appreciated your post about your grandma. Buy you write as if our “Grandma” is an old lady. We don’t know that. My DIL was 46 when she became a grandma.
OTOH, my wife’s sister was about 65 when she first became a grandmother. She will miss out on lots of things that require energy. (i.e. theme parks, the beach, climbing mountains, etc.)
Grandma and some others need to give us a profile.
Grandma - May I try some of your heaven and earth bars? They sound yummy.
Victoria - I can bake some sugar cookies for the welcome back Lynn party. How many do you think we need?
Victoria, I know it’s a terrible situation. That’s why I don’t understand why parents who feel the same way don’t get together and read the school board the riot act.
Here is a quote from our 3 yo grandaughter”
“Mom. Grandpa’s are old and grandma’s are new.”
I thought that was a great observation!
How do you get your profile to post in the “Meet the regulars?
Here is a link to an article on youth culture that reminded me that our children are living in a different culture than any of us grew up in.
http://www.lcms.org/pages/wPage.asp?IssueID=12&ContentID=95
Klasko,
Yes, you can try them. Do you want the recipe?
Grandma,
It just needs to be submitted/emailed (150 words maximum) to the powers that be. However, since Lynn is temporarily out on medical leave, you may want to wait until she returns, although the other staffers are quite capable.
Lynn’s email: [email protected]
Grandma - Yes, I would love the recipe, thank you. If you don’t want to post it on the blog, just send it to [email protected]
Chas, you are right, …. Grandma could be any age. Whatever her age is, she’s a joy to have on the blog.
About this “Vicky” stuff, — yesterday I wasn’t giving away BONG’S today is a new day Chas.
Klasko, sugar cookies are a good idea. How many? —- a lot, with MIM, Chas, and Peter L, we will need at least 5 dozen.
Grandma, how sweet, what a darling she must be
FYI- I am not very fond of sugar cookies, but I know there are others that like them. For the welcome home party, I will fix a desert one of my students brought in from Mexico. It is chocolate with coffee (one cup brewed coffee) and pecans. Rich and delicious!
Maybe I can get grandma to make some of the oatmeal cookies she just made for me. I’m telling you, she is the greatest cook alive! Those Heaven and Earth Bars are to die for but they are so rich and full of chocolate that you have to eat them for breakfast or you won’t sleep at night.
By the way, Grandma isn’t really that old. Old is 102 and she is just a little more than half that.
Mtcon
Just how do you know Grandma?
I’ve been married to her for 34+years! We have 4 grown and married children plus one gift from God. Also, 5 grandchildren and one due in July. We seldom blog together because she is a blog-hog. Actually, we only have one computer.
I can forgive her for being a blog-hog because she is such a great cook and a wonderful wife.
Mtcon - 90
You have one wonderful wife. I love to read her posts, I enjoy her humor, but most of all she loves the LORD Jesus Christ, and expresses her love in many ways. You are both blessed to have each other.
Blessings to you both
