Vanascarmom - you should read this article from February 18 on HumanEvents.com

http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=25021

It includes this statement:

"The word on the street is that the Obama campaign and New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg have already met and devised an incredible plan if Clinton wins the nominee.
Mayor Bloomberg would give nearly $1 billion to Obama's campaign after which Obama would bolt from the Democratic Party and run as an Independent candidate with king-maker Bloomberg as his running mate. The Obama campaign realizes that Obama is too new at this game and doesn't have the political weight of the Clintons to bring in the true heavy-hitters of the party's hierarchy. So, according to sources it was Bloomberg himself who suggested this cunning strategy. It's mind boggling that the Clintons are willing to destroy the entire Democratic Party, and potentially in the process lose the White House and seats in Congress, for their own selfish thirst for power and glory."

Scroop - Obama was indeed a real teacher at U of C Law (and well regarded).

Obama might be able to spin Bloomberg's money as an alternative to "special interest" influence money. With the MSM working full time (overtime even) to spin everything his way, he might be able to pull it off.

Vanascarmom -- You're right that logical inconsistency between word and deed doesn't matter if folks excuse it, but that's the acid test. You can bet that Bloomberg and Obama have independently researched the question. My guess is, they'll find that people will think less of Obama's independence and completeness as a candidate if he looks like he's climbing a money tree. On the other hand, you can't always predict these reactions.

From the UC CHicago Law School: He really was a professor!

"The Law School has received many media requests about Barack Obama, especially about his status as "Senior Lecturer."

"From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School's Senior Lecturers have high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined."

Scroop moth - since when has what a says about something and behaves about the same thing been consistant.

And from my experience, once you've decided on your candidate, most folks will excuse just about anything.

VANASCARMOM: . . . why couldn’t Bloomberg buy Barack the presidency?

Because too many voters wouldn't like it. Everything Obama said about money and politics would fall like a lead balloon.

This cross thought my mind after the Texas/Ohio primaries: If Hillary manages to "steal" the nomination from Obama, would he mount a third party campaign with Bloomberg?

Not sure what the rules are re VP financing his/her won campaign but why couldn't Bloomberg buy Barack the presidency?

"obamaberg" sounds like village in north Jersey, or may be something stuck infelicitously in Queens.

And if you said "bloomobama" it becomes something like "Bloomabama" -- obviously the name for some Spring and Garden Show.

May I also ask a question? Why did you choose "Bloombama" as opposed to "Obamaberg?"

Is this why Mr. Bloomberg has put the calorie-counting on hold in NY? They passed an ordinance that requires all restaurants to post the calories in a dish, but apparently it won't go into effect for awhile. Perhaps he doesn't want to be seen as a "nanny."

For some reason this smacks of desperation. I would feel the same way if McCain asked Lieberman to be his running mate.
